Born in Béziers in 1899, Jean Moulin was a former French prefect and Resistance fighter. He led the National Council of the Resistance during the Second World War. He is often regarded as one of the main heroes of the Resistance. On 19 December 1964, the Minister of Culture, André Malraux, admitted Jean Moulin to the Pantheon of the Great Men of the French Republic. On this occasion, he made him "the symbol" of French heroism and of the entire Resistance.
